MCCULLOCH
School of Irish Dance
Born in Paisley, Scotland, Karen immigrated to a suburb of Toronto, Ontario Canada called St.Catharines with her family at an early age. When Karen’s parents joined a local Irish Club she found Irish Dance and began taking lessons at The Bryan School of Irish Dance. Progressing from the Beginner through Novice levels by her second year, Karen was placed in the very competitive Open/Champion Levels winning numerous awards over the years. Along with dancing solo reels, jigs hornpipes and sets, she was asked to participate in Choreography of sixteen dancers that placed third in the 1978 and 1979 Ontario Oireachtas. Although Irish Dance is her expertise, Karen has also been exposed to Highland Dancing. Having spent many hours with Pat McMaster of the McMaster School of Highland Dance, she was properly introduced to the fundamentals without formally taking classes.
McCulloch School of Irish Dance, under the direction of Karen McCulloch Stockinger was founded in August of 2004. We currently have 35 students of all ages. Classes are held at our new location, 72 North Main St, Suite 100, Hudson(beside the popcorn store) . Karen’s philosophy is teaching this traditional dance in an atmosphere that is relaxed, supportive and fun. McCulloch School of Irish Dance is a proud member of Cumann Rince Naisiunta (pronounced koo-mun,rin-ka,now-shun-tuh ), also known as CRN, the National Dance Association of Ireland. The focus of CRN leans toward a very traditional style of Irish dance with compulsory material that all students must master in order to progress the next level.
McCulloch Irish Dancers perform at many different functions and fund raisers throughout the year, such as “Taste of Hudson” and the Memorial Day Parade in Hudson. During the week of St.Patrick’s Day the Dancers perform at many different facilities in Hudson and surrounding areas.
Through these many years of competing and performing, Karen has enjoyed all aspects of dancing. Now married with two children, she is excited about having the opportunity to share her talents with others.
